Revolutionary Spaces Debuts Ruckus!, a Bold New Attraction Exploring the Story of the American Revolution for America 250 at The People’s House Party
Tickets Now on Sale for July 1 Gala and July 2 Ruckus! Public Debut
BOSTON, MA (April 29, 2026) — Revolutionary Spaces today announced that tickets are now on sale for Ruckus!, a bold new attraction on Boston’s Freedom Trail that drops you in the heart of the Revolution debuting at the Old South Meeting House on July 2nd. The Exclusive First Look at Ruckus! will take place at The People’s House Party on July 1st. Together, the two experiences mark the official kickoff of Boston’s America 250 commemoration.
Ruckus! transforms the Old South Meeting House into an immersive storytelling environment that reimagines the nation’s founding as immediate and accessible. Opening to the public on July 2, the experience invites visitors of all ages to step inside the Ruckus! that ignited the American Revolution, offering a powerful new entry point into Boston’s historic Freedom Trail. Through a clear narrative arc spanning early protests in 1765 to the reading of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, guests encounter iconic figures John Hancock, Abigail Adams, and Phillis Wheatley, as well as a few unlikely newcomers whose presence brings humor, curiosity, and fresh perspective to the unfolding events.
Blending cutting-edge technology with historic preservation, Ruckus! was designed to be family-friendly and uses projected animations, transparent OLED screens, and dynamic sound to surround visitors with the voices and tensions that led to revolution. Developed in collaboration with Watertown-based digital experience design firm RLMG, the installation maintains the integrity of the Old South Meeting House while introducing a new model for storytelling on the Freedom Trail.
The Exclusive First Look at Ruckus! will take place on July 1st at The People’s House Party, an evening at the Old South Meeting House that honors the spirit of civic engagement and community ahead of the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. The event begins at 6:30 PM and the program starts at 7:30 PM. This year’s annual House Party continues the tradition of bringing people together in one of the nation’s most historic spaces for a night of connection and celebration.
Guests can expect the nostalgic atmosphere of a Boston summer evening, featuring a menu of elevated summer classics by the returning team at Chef Dave’s and a full cocktail bar including beverages generously donated by Harpoon Brewery. Music, memories, and community will energize the night, and a live band will transition guests from an intimate gathering to a celebratory kick-off for this important anniversary week.
Ruckus! shows take place daily and begin at 15 minutes past each hour, starting at 10:15 AM. Tickets to this 24-minute show also include general admission to the Old South Meeting House and the Old State House, as well as access to all exhibits, gallery talks, and tours. Space is limited per show and advance tickets are strongly recommended. Suitable for general audiences; parental discretion is advised for younger children. Ruckus! includes loud sound effects (including gunfire), dynamic lighting, and moments that may feel intense for some visitors, particularly young children or those sensitive to loud noises or bright lights. “Ruckus! marks a turning point not just for Revolutionary Spaces, but for how audiences experience history in Boston,” said Nat Sheidley, President and CEO of Revolutionary Spaces. “As we approach America’s 250th, we are proud to meet the moment by doing something truly unparalleled: transforming a beloved historic landmark on the Freedom Trail into a fully immersive environment where the Revolution is no longer something audiences read about, but something they feel. Visitors of all ages and backgrounds will step into the dramatic story of how the American Revolution was made right here in Boston and leave Ruckus! with a new understanding of the role they have to play in shaping what comes next.”
“With Ruckus!, Revolutionary Spaces has done something unprecedented–we’ve completely transformed our historic landmark with cutting-edge technology and top-tier storytelling that brings the space to life, while still allowing it to revert to its spectacular original state,” said Matthew Wilding, Senior Director of Interpretation & Future Planning for Revolutionary Spaces and creator of Ruckus!. “Visitors will be able to explore this venerable landmark as it has been preserved for centuries, but will also be able to step into it as it was in its heyday–a raucous meeting space where real and lively change occurred.”
Ruckus! is made possible through the generous support of a local private foundation, with major support from The Lynch Foundation, The Hamilton Company Charitable Foundation, Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism, Massachusetts 250, Meet Boston, and many generous individual supporters.
