Fighting for Tomorrow
The process of reflecting on Attucks challenges us today. It calls on us not to forget the central role played by Native and African-descended people in the Revolution and the place now called the United States. It reminds us of the cost of resistance: Protestors will be loved by some, ignored by others, and attacked by those who question their tactics and motives. It urges us to listen to those who take up the burden of demanding that the nation live up to its founding ideals. It reminds us that as long as the nation fails to realize the promise of the American Revolution for all of its people, we will always need another Attucks.
What does Attucks mean for us today?
