Crispus Attucks Day & Boston Massacre Commemoration

On Wednesday, March 5th, Commemorate Crispus Attucks Day in the City of Boston and the 255th anniversary of the Boston Massacre with Revolutionary Spaces.

In celebration of Crispus Attucks Day in the City of Boston, Revolutionary Spaces is pleased to host a special program for Boston Public School students, including winners of the annual Crispus Attucks Essay Contest. This program is being presented in partnership with the Friends of Crispus Attucks Association, Boston City Councilor Brian Worrell, and State Representative Aaron Michlewitz. Selected guests are invited to join us inside the Old State House Council Chamber at 10:00 AM. Due to capacity limitations at the Old State House, attendance at this program is by invitation only. However, additional guests may be allowed to attend, space permitting.

Following the Crispus Attucks Day commemoration, the public is invited to join Revolutionary Spaces at the Boston Massacre commemorative plaza outside the Old State House for a wreath laying ceremony at 10:30 AM. This solemn gesture pays homage to the lives lost during the Boston Massacre, symbolizes a collective remembrance of the events that unfolded in this very location, and serves as a tangible reminder of the sacrifices made during the struggle for American independence. Hear remarks from Revolutionary Spaces President and CEO Nat Sheidley, State Representative Aaron Michlewitz, and Councilor Brian Worrell as we honor this significant moment in our nation's history. This wreath-laying ceremony is free and open to the public, however pre-registration is highly encouraged.

We look forward to bringing the community together in unity and reflection, honoring the memory of those who fought and died for the principles of freedom and democracy.

Joseph Warren’s Legacy: 250 Years Later
This March, join Revolutionary Spaces as we recognize the 250th anniversary of Dr. Joseph Warren's dramatic Boston Massacre Memorial Speech delivered at the Old South Meeting House. Learn about Warren's life and contributions to the patriot cause, including his work as a physician, his famous 1775 address at Old South Meeting House, and his tragic death at the Battle of Bunker Hill. Dress in a toga, as Warren did, and take a photo in front of our pulpit! Plan your next visit!

COMING SOON: Dr. Joseph Warren’s Medical Journal
Also, on display for a limited time this March at Old South Meeting House is a page from Dr. Joseph Warren's medical journal detailing his treatment of Boston Massacre victim Christopher Monk. Severely disabled as a result of the wound he sustained on March 5, 1770, Monk died as a result of his injuries ten years later, on April 20, 1780.  Known locally as the "Sixth Massacre Victim," Monk was under Dr. Warren's care from the night of the Massacre until Warren's own death in combat at the Battle of Bunker Hill, June 17, 1775. This object will be available for public viewing thanks to the generosity of Christian Di Spigna, historian, author, and Chair of the Dr. Joseph Warren Foundation. Get tickets now to visit the Old South Meeting House!
